Kurza Góra Observation Tower – A One of a Kind Structure in Northern Poland
The Kurza Góra Observation Tower is a truly unique construction unmatched anywhere else in northern Poland. A walk along the wooden pathway leading to the top of the 35-meter-high tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Drwęca Valley, while also revealing the fascinating history of the Kurzętnik Castle and the town itself.
Few people know that in 1410, this very area was chosen by the Teutonic Knights as the intended site for a major battle meant to showcase their military power. In the end, the actual battle took place nearby at Grunwald and became a legendary victory for the Polish-Lithuanian forces.
The elevated walkway stretching above the ski slopes doubles as an educational trail, rich in interactive exhibits and multimedia storytelling. It brings to life the medieval era, the fortified castle and its inhabitants, the town at its feet, and the mysterious, history-shaping battle.
The observation tower is part of a year-round tourist and recreational infrastructure just like the existing tubing track complex on site. It was designed and built entirely by Polish engineers, architects, and skilled carpenters.
Educational Nature Trail
A wooden path leads to the observation tower, featuring interactive installations that transport visitors back to a time when Kurzętnik was full of life and a fortified castle stood proudly above the town. This place witnessed many extraordinary events, but the most significant was a remarkable act of courage and cunning by King Władysław Jagiełło. He outsmarted the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Ulrich von Jungingen, and avoided the ambush that had been prepared for him. Thanks to this, we can now read in historical chronicles about the great victory of the Polish-Lithuanian forces over the Teutonic Knights at the Battle of Grunwald.
A walk along the wooden trail is a unique journey through time, offering a chance to step into the medieval streets of Kurzętnik, uncover castle legends, encounter brave knights, and experience the remarkable atmosphere of a bygone era.
